Dollcatch Jade
I looked out of curiosity to see what their dolls were like and was immediately smitten with Jade....... But I will not have enough to buy him before the sell is over ($240) and after that he will jump up to 480... /sigh. He is lovely but out of my reach. I think he would have made a very smart beautiful and fiesty looking little girl too. Ah well, you can't always get what you want ^^ Besides I think sd are not for me.

This is really big news for me since next doll I want is AOD AN.... So if I order AN I can choose also a free head... What head would I choose.... hmm... decisions decisions decisions... I think maybe Rao or Wang Zi....
If I wasn't so DEAD SET on wanting a TAN An, I would get a girl doll and just a normal skin yellow AN head and swap it onto my dollzone Mowen... I like dollzone's body better anyways... but nope... I REALLY want tan for the character I want to create with AN
About this Blog
This blog will contain stockphotos of dolls (and accessories) that I like, personal photos of dolls/accesories that I own, and hopefully if enough people decide to visit the blog, the idea is inside the comments it will have user submitted images of their own dolls. (Like for example if I made a post saying I liked Bobobie Sprite and posted a bunch of stock photos of her, other readers could reply in the comments with images of their own bobobie sprite and how different she may look with different wigs/faceup/modifications)
About me and my dolls:
I go by Xenokitten on den of angels (the best english website for balljoint doll information) as well as many other websites.
As of this writing I am 27 years old, female from PA, usa - soon to be moving to Ohio in just a few short weeks time. I am a full time graphic artist for a small fireworks company. In my spare time I love ball joint dolls, videogames, anime, roleplaying, cosplaying, and much more. I graduated from Slippery Rock University in december 2006 where I studied Communication and technology and design and have a BA to and several student loans to pay off to prove it hehe.
Online I am rather brash and outspoken. I'm also very open to chatting or talking about anything. In real life though I am anything but outspoken... I am the most shy, quiet, socially anxious individual you will ever meet. I like chatting online because I am often lonely in real life due to my shyness and the difficulties that I have to make friends. I'm an only child and have always spent my time isolated, occupying myself with quiet peaceful activities, writing, daydreaming, art, reading, or playing with tv, books, manga, toys, and videogames.
I first got into the balljoint doll scene in 2004 or 2005 when I randomly stumbled across Volk's website. I had never seen anything like the ball joint dolls ever before. Their luminous glow on their skin, their unique anime style, and the way they could pose and move unlike any doll I had ever seen before. I spent weeks looking at pictures... and then quietly filed the memory away.
It was later in 2007 that I would rekindle my interest in these beautiful dolls. Somehow I stumbled across the den of angels - a wonderful forum that covered not just volks but tens of dozens of companies that I had never heard of, companies who's prices were far less than volks at the time. Instead of 500 or 600 for a doll, I found dolls for around 100-150. - I can do that, that's reasonable. I told myself. It was still alot for a doll, but I was determined from that point onward.
I got my first doll, Dollzone Demi in febuary 2007 from the junkyspot.com - I highly reccomend this store! I agonized for days over which doll to get and my mind changed frequently. In the end it came down to Nina or Demi - I think both dolls are quite cute, but Nina's face was more doll-like... It bothered me... It was almost plastic looking. Not in material... but in expression. Like a mass manufactured barbie doll. There was something about Demi.... The stock photos are HORRID.... It does no justice at all to her. She is such a wonderful doll and remains one of my favorite sculpts from ANY company hands down. Her expresion shifts and changes depending on camera angle and she is just so darn cute.
This is my beautiful demi - I am a horrid face up artist. I am sure in the right hands she would be even more wonderful than she already is
I love this doll so much. She is one that I will never sell or trade. But not all dolls are that way I am afraid. A few months later in June 2007 I got my 2nd ball joint doll, Dollzone Mowen. I wanted a boyfriend for my demi. Someone I could pose with her in photo shoots like this one that I took last spring:
However, I'm a fan of gothic lolita, frilly girly clothing, so the overall thought of a male doll was not as exciting to me as a female doll. Still, I wanted to get a boyfriend for Demi. Once again, at the time, dollzone had the cheapest prices. That is not true anymore, dollzone has increased in popularity and increased it's prices and new companies come up all the time now as ball joint dolls gain more and more western attention. But at the time 2 years ago, my choices were limited. I could not afford a doll that I really liked, so therefore "settled" for Dollzone Mowen - who may I add is an imensely popular sculpt... - I still have him right now, however as of this writing I am trying to sell him in order to purchase a new boy doll for a match for demi. One who's sculpt I am actually drawn to almost as much as when I first seen Demi, and that is AOD An. I'm also going to save and invest in a tan one. I have it all planned out. I want Tan AOD an, bright green eyes with dark eyebrows, and a blonde or white curly short boy cut wig. -- Ah but I digress, we are getting off topic. This paragraph was supposed to be about Mowen, was it not?
So back to June 2007, I debated for a bit between Mowen or Megi, at the time dollzone didn't have too many sculpts, and their sculpts have evolved and become alot better over the years. But It came down to, Megi looked mean, something about his mouth and eyes looked mean. I didn't want my Demi to have a mean boyfriend. That just would not do! So I decided on Mo. It was a pretty sculpt. I have seen some lovely Dollzone Mo faceups. But I have had the doll for going on 2 years now and seldom play with him. He sits on the shelf while my girls take up all the camera time. Ocassionally he comes out to play with Demi, but many more times, I just take Demi out by herself.
It all boils down to an issue of bonding. I could not bond with my dollzone Mowen, no matter how hard I try... So I am therefore hopeing to find him a good home. Of course if I raise enough money for AOD AN before I rehome Mowen, I will probably just keep him, but... I feel bad that such a pretty sculpt is wasted here.
My Mowen:
With my less than great experience with Mowen, I somewhat fell out of the loop of dolls. Then I began thinking. "I wonder if I could bond better with a 60cm doll" I tried for the first time back then to sell Mowen but I changed my mind at the last moment because I felt attachment to him, almost as if he were one of my children.
But still 60 cm dolls were expensive - where was I going to get the money for something like that. It was then in roughly may 2008 that I discovered paradox Obitsu. They are almost like ball joint dolls except they are made from vinyl instead of resin. Thus they could be sold for nearly a 3rd of the cost. I managed to find a good deal on a gently used Obitsu body from a seller on den of angels and I purchased the Obitsu Gretel head from junkyspot once more where my 2 dollzone dolls had come from.
I must say, although Demi will always be hands down my favorite doll... I have THE MOST FUN playing with my Obitsu!!! I highly reccomend Obitsu to everyone. They pose so much better than ANY resin doll. The newer face sculpts "Gretel, Hansle, Haruka", etc are on par with many resin facesculpts, and their flexibility is amazing. I play with mine all the time, far more than I do my little resin babies. I have heard rumours of the torso on Obitsu breaking easily in the soft body type which is what mine is, however I have never had this happen and have had her now for about 8 months. She is so much fun. I have pages upon pages of pictures of her in my photobucket account.
Here is my obitsu Gretel
Here in north western PA, It snows from halloween til mid easter and I hate the cold being originally from California. So my dolls do not get much play/camera time outside of the spring/summer/early autumn months. But in those months, my dolls go everywhere with me. I have taken them camping, hiking, fishing, to beaches, rivers, streams, nature trails, bicylce paths, woods, etc. My favorite part of the hobby is taking photos of the dolls out in nature.
I just ordered my fourth ball joint doll, AOD (Angel of Dream / Angel of Dreams) Mimi or Mi. From a reseller on ebay. I think the doll was out of stock though so I could have quite a long wait. I ordered her in the pinkywhite skin tone. And she will be my first Yo-sd tiny sized doll, about 11 inches high, hopeing she can wear some barbie clothes although I think barbie's clothes will be much too thin/narrow through the hips. I am anxiously awaiting AOD Mi to arrive then I will have one ball joint doll of each size.
My next doll after Mimi will be An also by AOD. Angel of Dream An in Tan with a blonde, silver, or white curly short wig and bright green eyes. He will be really attractive and make Demi very happy. Although if Mowen is still here, he will be jealous! lol :)
